The environmentalist, teacher and artist Ric Obenza is named one of the seven awardees for the 48th Datu Bago Awards. Other Awardees chosen by the Datu Bago Award Organization, Inc. (DBAOI) are Bro. Karl Gaspar, Norma Javellana, Belen C. Laud, Aland David Mizell, Beethoven N. Sur, and Nieto L. Vitto.

Ricardo “Ric” N. Obenza, Jr.—a 72-year-old artist, teacher, and environmentalist who lives in Calinan, Davao City—has dedicated his life to improving the Davao environment by planting native trees with student volunteers and by sharing his love of art and nature with the youth.

Thanks to a resolution approved by the Davao City Council on Tuesday 29th August, the Kadayawan Tribal Village at Ramon Magsaysay Park is extended until December to allow more people to visit and learn from the showcase of the 11 tribes of Davao City — Ata, Klata, ObuManuvu, Matigsalug, Tagabawa, Tausug, Maguindanaon, Iranun, Kagan, Maranao and Sama.
